The Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women is a non-profit organization delivering services, programs and hosting events to improve outcomes for Aboriginal Women. The IAAW is based in Edmonton, with reach to several rural and urban communities across Alberta.  The project coordinator ensures the completion of project activities to meet proposed goals and outcomes. Reporting to the CEO, the project coordinator ensures the program is successful and seamlessly links to other IAAW programs and initiatives.


  • Facilitate training sessions for groups of women on financial literacy.
  • Participate as a member of two community collaborations to train others and share resources.
  • Assist program participants in developing personal action plans, using their knowledge of the Indigenous community and connection to local resources
  • Attend meetings as required to secure relationships with funders and partners.
  • Join with other staff members to ensure important organizational milestones are met, participate in event planning and preparation.
  • Complete all necessary evaluations, forms and project reports
  • Share program information to small and large groups
  • Contribute to the development of program materials
  • Communicate best practices and areas for improvement as often as necessary to continuously improve the program content


  • Degree and/or diploma in the Human Services field
  • Minimum 2 years of project management experience  

Skills and Abilities 

  • Experienced in trauma-informed service delivery, not be judgmental or impose personal views but rather foster independence and confidence when working with women rebuilding their lives
  • Knowledgeable of First Nation, Metis and Inuit community and leaders in Alberta
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and time management skills, Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Creative and innovative; you will take the initiative to solve problems and recommend improvements
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Ability to lift materials and displays up to 30 lbs.
  • Must have reliable vehicle, have ability to travel overnight on occasion
  • Friendly, professional and outgoing to promote positive working relationships inside and outside the office.

Reporting To:  CEO

Hours of work:  Full-time position. Monday – Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, some extended hours or weekends to be expected. Salary Range $39,000 – 44,000 per annum, based on experience.  Basic Benefits to start after probationary period completed. This is a term position until Dec 31, 2019 with good possibility of extension.
