General Function:

Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training is seeking a Job Developer in the Employment Services Department. The Job Developer will be accountable for working with employers to establish partnerships that promote and secure employment opportunities for Aboriginal job seekers and assisting job seekers in obtaining employment.


  • Build and nurture relationships with employers in all employment sectors for the purpose of identifying and/or creating employment or training opportunities for Miziwe Biik job seekers in the GTA
  • Analyze the needs of new employers and guide/support them through all aspects of their recruiting, training and hiring while promoting Miziwe Biik programs and clients
  • Develop and maintain employer leads through cold calls, direct mail, personal contacts and networking
  • Work with employers to develop training plans, job descriptions and negotiate appropriate Employment Ontario terms
  • Conduct regular site monitors and provide job-coaching and support during job placements including identifying and resolving workplace issues that may affect participant success
  • Act as a liaison between employers and Miziwe Biik clients who are participating in, or have completed Miziwe Biik training programs
  • Contribute to promotional materials for job fairs and information sessions, etc., to be mass distributed to Miziwe Biik clients and the GTA Aboriginal community pertaining to employment or training opportunities
  • Work with Employment Specialists, employers and Miziwe Biik clients to coordinate job placements for clients with either fixed or variable barriers to employment
  • Coordinate and promote to Miziwe Biik Employment Specialists job leads, as well as gathering resumes, preparation of letter and faxing of qualified client resumes to job opportunities
  • Participate with Employment Specialists in case management and job matching for available job postings
  • Coordinate and oversee quarterly job fairs, information sessions and other events as required for employers to present their services and employment opportunities to Miziwe Biik clients
  • Participate in network events in community organizations, employment agencies and youth employment service providers in the GTA
  • Develop, design and facilitate workshops
  • Ensure employers and clients meet all eligibility requirements of the Employment Ontario and Indigenous Skills & Employment Training Strategy (ISETS) Program guidelines
  • Maintain meticulous files and prepare all paperwork associated with the suite of contracted Employment Ontario programs
  • Collect statistical data and prepare monthly written statistical and activity reports
  • Other duties as required


  • Post-secondary certificate in a relevant field
  • Minimum of two years of successful experience in job development and/or employment counselling
  • Knowledge of First Nations, Inuit and Métis culture as well as Aboriginal organizations and resources in the GTA
  • Ability to learn all aspects of the Employment Ontario Programs
  • Excellent marketing, sales and; competently and comfortably making cold calls and networking
  • Negotiating skills
  • Experience developing presentations and Life Skills workshops for a variety of audiences
  • Knowledge of the various employment sectors
  • Some knowledge of Human Resources and Employment Standards
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to decipher Provincial Service Agreements and Program Guidelines
  • Experience in planning professional events
  • First Nations, Métis or Inuit background
