Position title: Chef (NOC 6321)

We have a great opportunity for our upcoming opening. The successful candidate will ensure to created an outstanding food experience for our patrons. The Chef will achieve this by walking the difficult line between providing superior food in a consistent quality manner and ensuring an efficient and cost affordable operation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop the initial menu and continue to improve the menu based on our patrons’ feedback;
  • Estimate equipment requirements, negotiate prices and purchase equipment in line with budget;
  • Develop the selection and development of specific recipes that can be made efficiently and consistently;
  • Hire and manage all kitchen staff (cooks, helpers and other support staff);
  • Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards and presentation requirements;
  • Orders supplies to stock inventory to ensure menu items are available while minimizing waste;
  • Keeps track of profit and loss for various menu items with the help of the accounting staff;
  • Interface with events organizers;
  • Comply and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards;
  • Solicits ongoing feedback from patrons by walking through the establishment


  • High School education;
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully starting a new restaurant acquired in the past 5 years;
  • Demonstrated experience developing new menus and setting up a new kitchen;
  • Experienced and high level of knowledge of food service, quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, preparation and presentation required;
  • Fluent in English with solid communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and able to deal effectively with patrons even when they are dissatisfied
  • Culinary education, Red Seal is considered an asset
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety regulations pertaining to the hospitality industry;
  • Self motivated, with a positive attitude and outgoing personality
  • Maintain good rapport with suppliers

Working conditions

  • Available to work different shifts during day, night or weekends
  • Some overtime may be required;
  • Much of the time the incumbent will be standing
  • Constant exposure to high temperatures in the kitchen environment
